Adding 3rd HDD to Synology SHR Configuration
#===================================================================================================================================#
Shut Down your NAS before doing anything, take NAS out, and unscrew rear 4 thumb screws holding in the Cover
Slide out the 3rd Drive Bay Door - this is what we will be installing the 3rd drive on
Slide the Drive onto the Drive Holder Slide
Slide the New Disk in, making sure that the SATA Connector is the upper right side up
Retighten the Screws and plug the NAS back into Power & Ethernet, Press Button & Wait for the NAS to complete Start Up
Note that if the NAS Powers Back ON and starts beeping at you, and you see “Volume 1 Degraded” - Just check to see if all of the Disk Bays are fully Plugged in before digging deeper
Go into Storage Manager > Storage Pool 1 > Volume 1 and select your 3rd Disk if Healthy > Manage Available Drives
Select Add drive for storage expansion and select your Storage Pool > Volume
Select your Drive and Review your Expansion Options
After Adding the Drive to the Storage Pool, watch the progress of the new disk as it gets added to the Storage Pool, wait until 100%, and then congrats! You now have more Storage Space than you know what to do with 😀
You will know the drive is added if your screen looks like this!
