Setting up a Playit.gg Tunnel for External Valheim Access

So you've got your intel NUC set up, you've got Ubuntu Server Installed and a working Valheim Server BUT only people on your local network can access it - what do you do?

However, exposing services directly to the internet increases the attack surface of the network and can introduce security risks if the service has vulnerabilities, so what do you do? One solution: Setup a VPN Tunnel

Playit.gg creates a secure tunnel from your server to the Playit network.

  • Instead of opening a port on your router, your server establishes an outbound connection to Playit’s infrastructure.

  • Players then connect to the Playit endpoint, which forwards traffic through the tunnel to your Valheim server.
