Intel NUC Gaming Server
Intel NUC Gaming Server
Over time I began to explore just what you can do with Docker Containers, one of my biggest surprises was the fact that you could run entire always-on Gaming Servers like Minecraft or Valheim, ones where you didn't need to start up a world, you didn't even need to be at your computer, they could just jump on and connect anytime they felt
At this point I had already built Syrup MK1 and was unsure if i wanted to place the load of multiple gaming servers on top of the same system that I was running home automations, so i opted for a small Intel NUC NUC7i7DNHE Mini PC I found for a reasonable price on eBay

RAM: Crucial 16GB Single DDR4 2666 MT/s
SSD: Patriot P300 M.2 PCIe Gen 3 x4 1TB
That's about it, these intel NUC's are great for homelabs if you don't require anything GPU intensive, good candidate for learning k8s on too!
If so great, why is this a "Past Project"?
In short.. the NVME SSD died to overheating. I ran a single Valheim World, playit.gg and portainer container on the system for about 6 months until i wasn't able to connect to the system anymore - by the time I connected a monitor to troubleshoot the system, it was already mostly shot. No warnings, no notifications, the SSD slowly overheated and cooked over time - the same SSD containing the Valheim world my dad and I regularly played on, so rescuing the world became an urgent project
